Steps to follow to connect two computers using firewire:
Turn off the computer, whose volumes have to be used as external drives.
- Connect the two Mac systems with a FireWire cable.
- Start the Mac system to be used as drive, and then go to System Preferences from the Apple menu.
- Select Target Disk Mode from Start-up Disk menu.
- Restart the computer. A drive icon appears on the computer, and volumes of the computer are displayed on the other computer as external drives.
There is an alternate method of target disk mode where volumes of one computer can be used as the external drive by simply pressing the T button when restarting the computer after being connected by firewire.
